About Lorelle Rau Studios
Lorelle Rau is an independent curator, art consultant, and the founder of Lorelle Rau Studios, an art consulting firm that offers a full line of services; through which artwork reaches beyond the artist's studio to connect with its audience.
Throughout her early career, Lorelle worked closely with a number of important mentors. Having a mother as a sculptor, she experienced firsthand the challenges and rewards of being an artist, which motivated her to study art management at Appalachian State University. There she gained experience working in the college galleries and quickly moved up to curatorial assistant at the museum working closely alongside the curator. It was in these quiet, contemplative spaces in galleries and museums that she discovered a love and appreciation of art that grew into a lifelong passion. She continued on course towards an art career, building professional experience and connections through working for the Corcoran Gallery of Art and several commercial galleries. She later earned her master’s degree in arts administration from the Savannah College of Art and Design. Before long, she established a niche working for a corporate art consulting agency. Realizing that she could turn this into a viable, fulfilling career, she set out on her own.
Lorelle knows the visual art world in every capacity, and easily guides clients through the entire process of acquisitions from researching and proposing quality art recommendations, to purchasing, framing, and installing the artwork. Using art to tell a story that reflects her client's personality, values, and culture, she always takes the time to get to know them as individuals, learning about their personal taste or the unique message of their brand. Providing a service that connects artists and collectors gives Lorelle a deep sense of accomplishment. With her knowledge of the art market and a keen intuition, she makes discovering the right artwork a rewarding experience for everyone, and as an art consultant, that's what matters most to her.
FAQs
What is the process for hiring an art consultant?
We start by getting to know you, your space, and your style in an initial in-person meeting. Depending on the project, we may ask to consult floorplans, finishes, paint colors, drawings, or other supporting materials. Once we’ve determined your aesthetic direction, we will then make purchase recommendations to clients. We then handle all aspects of the transactions including purchase, framing, delivery, and installation.
Does Lorelle Rau Studios have a gallery or a showroom?
We do not. Most of our artwork is custom and tailored to meet the needs of your specific project. However, we do provide artwork samples and examples for you to see in person. We can also bring original artwork to you to see in your space on approval.
How do you base artwork recommendations for our space?
First, we do on-site visits along with having a conversation with the stakeholders to determine which areas call for art and what type of art the client is interested in. We also consult floorplans, finish plans, and photos to produce artwork recommendations.
Do you work on projects out of state?
Yes, gladly! If you are not in Boise and an onsite visit is required, we will be happy to travel to your location. If we decide travel isn’t necessary, we will review photos, floorplans, drawings, finishes, and any other supporting materials.
What is the difference between an art consultant and an interior decorator?
An interior decorator or designer handles all aspects of the design project and sources individual décor items, so they may not be as fully immersed in the art world as an art consultant. Art consultants are industry experts with years of experience and knowledge of the art market. They have access to a wide network of artwork from artists and galleries they work with. Art consultants frequently attend gallery openings, studio visits, and shows and are aware of new artwork as it becomes available. Specializing in only the art portion of the project allows art consultants to focus on one crucial design element enabling them to key into your personality, aesthetic, and artwork interests.
Do you represent specific artists?
No, we typically represent art buyers and collectors, rather than specific artists. While we do maintain relationships with many artists, galleries, museums, and art publishing companies, we are not bound by those restrictions. We are not limited to selling specific artists’ work in the same way galleries are.
How do you consult with emerging artists?
It all depends on your goals as an artist. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story can make all the difference. We will customize each consulting session to your personal needs.
How do you charge?
Our fees depend on the scope of the project. Contact us today for a free, no-obligation consultation!
Do you do work with individuals as well as corporations?
Yes, while we work primarily on corporate and healthcare projects, we welcome the opportunity to work with individuals in their home.
What is the turnaround time?
Each project is custom but on average a typical project can take 4-6 weeks.
Do you deliver and install?
Yes, we will deliver and install your artwork. We work with a team of professional contractors that are skilled in all aspects of hanging and handling art.
I am an artist. What is the best way for me submit my artwork for consideration?
We are happy to review your artwork. Please send an email that includes a biography, artist statement and five jpeg images of your current work. Please include contact information, price list, and link to your website as well. Unfortunately, we are unable to respond to all artwork submissions.
